The Quarter Horse: origins, traits and sport
The breed born in the short races of the United States, and today the leading breed in speed events such as barrel racing.

Where the name comes from
The name comes from quarter-mile races, in which the breed excelled in the United States. The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) was organized in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1940, and is today the largest breed registry in the world.
Why it shines in barrel racing
Acceleration over short distances and agility make the Quarter Horse the breed most used in barrel racing.
The Quarter Horse in Brazil
In Brazil the breed is represented by the ABQM, the Brazilian Quarter Horse Breeders Association, and by state associations such as the RJQM. Brazilian breeders also import American genetics: the B2B Ranch band includes imported mares and pedigrees linked to First Down Dash, Frenchmans Guy, Tres Seis and Epic Leader.
